Career choices you can have other than teaching with a teaching degree

It may appear obvious that if you acquire a teaching degree, you will work as a teacher. However, after a while, you may begin to question if there is alternate employment for instructors outside of the classroom. The good news is that teachers have a wide range of transferrable abilities that are valued in a variety of businesses. A teaching degree may qualify you for positions in business, non-profit organizations, publishing, government, and other fields. Therefore, if you're currently a teacher searching for a second career, know that employers may be willing to recruit you, as an ex-teacher.

Career opportunities you can have with a teaching degree besides being a teacher

Though applying for a teaching job vacancy after attaining a teaching degree is ideal. The good news is that teachers have a wide range of transferrable abilities that are valued in a variety of businesses.

  • Marketing

Use your commercial acumen and understanding of human needs and aspirations to assist businesses in marketing their products. Remember that traditional marketing is simply one component of the overall picture. There are many good opportunities for ex-teachers in today's Internet-based economy.

  • Technical author

While you may need to take a course in technical writing, this is a necessary ability that not everyone possesses. Use your writing skills to create user guides, manuals, and white papers for businesses of all sizes.

  • Counsellors in Schools

School counsellors, sometimes known as guidance counsellors, assist children in a variety of ways, and they, too, are not present in the classroom on a daily basis. Again, more training is required, but if you want to stay in education and support students in different ways, school counselling is an option.

  • Administrators in Schools

Consider a career in educational administration. If you want to stay in education but don't want the obligation of running your own classroom, look for unfilled opportunities at adjacent school districts.

  • Paralegal

There is more than one teacher who has transitioned to a job as a paralegal. Training programs are frequently required, and many of your skills as an instructor are readily transferable.

  • Human Capital

Employee education or training is typically provided by companies and can be taught by someone with a teaching degree. Working as a recruiter is another option in human resources. Your ability to comprehend the needs of people from various backgrounds can be beneficial to a company looking to hire HR professionals.
